The date

No authentic report fixes the date. The 27th of Rajab is the date most widely observed, especially in South Asia; scholars have proposed other months as well.

How it is observed

  • Ahle Sunnat (Barelvi) traditionA night of voluntary prayer, Quran recitation and gatherings recounting the Mi'raj; some also fast on the 27th.

How other Sunni schools see it

Deobandi scholars affirm the event and the merit of worship in general, but say no special prayer or fast is established for this night. Ahle Hadith scholars likewise reject specific observances.
