The two Eids
When the Prophet came to Madinah the people had two days of festivity from before Islam, and he told them God had given them two better days instead, al-Adha and al-Fitr (Sunan Abi Dawud 1134).
Fitrah
The Prophet made Zakat al-Fitr due on every Muslim, a measure (sa') of dates or barley, to be given before the Eid prayer (Sahih al-Bukhari 1503). In the Hanafi school it may be given as its value in money, and scholars in India announce the amount each year.

Fasting on the day of Eid ul Fitr and the day of Eid ul Adha is forbidden (Sahih al-Bukhari 1990).
